I have 2 shih tzu puppies. 7mo. old male is very obedient and confident. My 5 mo. old female immediately rolls over on her back with paws up when you reach out to pet her. I got them both from private breeders when they were each about 8 weeks old. Is this normal? Is she sad? Is this a big problem and how should I correct it?

They are simply showing you that you are the dominent one in the pack……..
I love Shih Tzus…….
I think it is normal, my female chi does that and it is just because she wants her belly rubbed, so rub her belly and let her know shes a good girl!
its not a problem she is just showing you where she wants to be petted/rubbed
This isn’t a bad thing. It just means she’s super submissive. In the wild, dogs/wolves lay on their backs and expose their tummies to the leader of the pack to let them know that they trust them fully and will follow them.
She’s just letting you know that she knows who’s boss.
no its good, they are showing submisive behaviour and saying your the boss
+ a lot of dogs loves to be scratched on their belly
not a problem, nothing to fix, just love her and aprove of her, praise her and pet her belly telling her she is a good girl
she wants a biscuit
could be that they are admitting that you are the dominant one; which is good or it could be just that they like their bellies rubbed.
they just love for you to rub there bellys my dog is the same way good luck
Dogs live in packs so when they r puppies and their mother comes over to correct them the mom will usually push the puppies onto their backs to show them the correct way. So ur puppy might b showing that she is nervous…possibly because of something that happened while she was still with her mother. Just stay calm when ur around her and tell her that its okay and give her treats so she knows the correct behavior.
It is always a sign of her being submissive. It’s not bad – she’s just letting you know she knows you’re in charge! My lab does this a lot too. She’s a big baby!

its normal they just rather would be rubbed on there bellies some dogs like it more than others.
if you want to correct it you could roll her back over enough times until she stays there
This is not a problem and you don’t need to correct it. A dog rolling over and showing their belly is actually a very good behavior. When a dog is willing to roll over on their back and face their belly up, then that dog is showing submission and respect, which is what you want a pet to do (you don’t want a pet dog who thinks that he/she is the dominant head of the pack).
Also, some dogs simply like having their belly rubbed, and that is sometimes why a dog will immediately roll their belly up when you go to pet them. Even if that is the case, it is still a good sign that your dog is willing to roll her belly up to you.
So, you have nothing to worry about. You do not need to correct her for rolling up her belly, because it is actually a wonderful sign of submission and respect from your dog.
Best wishes!
Cause she want her belly rubbed (lol) She is telling you you are the pack leader.
Yes to all the posts… however you do want to instill a littlemore confidence. Try not petting her until you give command to sit and she does it… Work with sit and don’t pet tummy all the time You can also stroke the chest while she is in a sit.
Take for walks and reward with pat on head when doing things right…
Because they love you and want belly rubs LOL also because they acknowledge your alpha role. It’s all good, they sound like very happy puppies, give them an extra belly rub for me will ya?

She’s showing submission. You definitely want that in a dog.
it is a very submissive behavoir. just ignore her when you first come home. she will get over it. Do not scold her, or make her feel that she is doing something wrong.
My puppy goes to day care and to let the other dogs know that he just wants to play and have fun he immediately goes onto his back so that the majority of the big dogs will know that he is not agressive. He also likes to jump on people so now when I say don’t jump, he sits but that lays on his back in the same way he does at day care. He also likes his tummy and chest rubbed of course.
